Baisley Battles to Debut Win
In a week of firsts it was Matt Baisleys turn to claim his debut win in the second Round of the Junior League Winter Series. He was made to work hard for it though as the opening Heat of the night seemed to be going the way of Round 1 winner Aiden Durrant. Durrant led the opening nine laps but was then heavily baulked by a back-marker which allowed Baisley to snatch the victory on the line. Jak Warner came in not far behind in third. Heat 2 saw an amazing driver from Warner who faught his way from the back of the grid to lead by the end of the opening lap. Rookie driver Charles McGregor followed him through to claim an excellent second at the flag with Durrant in third. Heat 3 saw Baisley rise back to the top this time leading for most of the way with Durrant second and Warner third. This was enough to put Warner on pole for the final alongside Baisley but it was Durrant who got the break at the start pulling out a healthy early lead. Mcgregor’s rookie charge took a knock on lap 2 when he spun and got bogged down on the grass, dropping him out of contention. At the halfway point it was race leader Durrants turn to spin, dropping him, behind both Baisley and Warner. Despite Warners best efforts he couldn’t quite catch Baisley who took a long overdue first victory in the league. Durrant recovered to third with rookie driver Cameron Rutledge coming home an excellent fourth just ahead of Arnold Lincoln.
Durrant and Warner are now tied on points at the head of the championship with just one round remaining with Baisley only a further nine behind. The final round takes place on Thursday 31st March, to book a place call 01502 717718.
